A lot of readers wanted MORE of Ashlyn and Aiden after finishing UNRAVEL ME. Well, I’m excited to tell you that they recently sat down for an interview with Lisa from Lisa’s Book Reviews.
(Lisa is fabulous, so if you haven’t checked out her blog – get over there! The girl reads like a maniac and also has great recommendations.)
Read on and find out what they’ve been up to since the end of UNRAVEL ME!
I’m greeted at the door by Logan, I mean, Aiden, which I’m still not used to calling him. He offers me his hand and I take it, it’s warm and encloses mine completely.
“Please, come in, Miss…?”
“Lisa is fine.”
He urges me forward into the beautiful apartment and closes the door behind me. Soft music floats in the background and the apartment is spotlessly clean and modernly furnished. I can’t help but think it’s a far cry from the apartment he once shared with Ashlyn.
“Can I get you a glass of wine? I’ve just opened a bottle of Bordeaux.” He gestures to the granite slab of an island separating the kitchen from the dining and living rooms.
I nod, momentarily distracted by the flecks of green in his eyes. While Aiden is pouring us each a glass of wine, Ashlyn saunters from the bedroom, dressed casually in a tunic and leggings, her hair flowing loose over her shoulders. She’s pretty, but not in a striking way, sort of in an girl next door way.
Aiden smiles at the sight of her, and watches her walk toward us, before turning to me and handing me my glass of wine. “This is Ashlyn.” He introduces us, then gives her a glass of the ruby-colored wine as well.
She appraises me coolly, the one person he’d finally agreed to grant an interview to after all the media requests and speculation over the past several months.
“It’s nice to meet you,” I offer.
She merely nods. I can tell she’s protective of him and weary of this interview.
“Let’s sit.” He gestures to the sofa, and I follow him, stepping down the few stairs to the sunken living room. Ashlyn trails behind us.
I choose my seat wisely, taking the caramel-colored arm chair and leaving the sofa for them. I try a sip of the wine, and light notes of berry and sultry flavors of pepper burst on my tongue. It’s delicious.
Ashlyn and Aiden sit together on the couch. He’s leaning back casually, one arm resting on the sofa behind her, while she leans forward, attentively.
I want to set her at ease. “First, let me say you two look great together, very happy.”
He squeezes her knee.
She grins up at me before responding. “Thank you, we are.”
“Aiden, what was it like waking up with amnesia? It must be frightening to wake up one day and know absolutely nothing about your life.”
He leans forward and rests his elbows on his knees. “It’s not a time I like to think about – those first several days in the hospital were… hell. I didn’t recognize my own face in the mirror, my mind raced with questions that I couldn’t answer.” He paused, running a hand through his hair. “But then I met Ashlyn.”
Listening to him speak is one thing, but seeing the pain reflected in his eyes is another. I didn’t expect the interview to have such an effect on me, but my stomach is turning somersaults, like I’ve actually been transported back to the hospital room with him. “What was your first thought when you saw Ashlyn in your hospital room?”
“She was the first visitor I had outside of the doctors, lawyers, and investigators, so at first I thought someone from my past had finally come forward. I remember thinking she was beautiful, and wondering if she was a friend, or a relative, or who she might be. When she said she was there to study amnesia, my hopes were crushed again. But then she ordered me to be uncuffed. I didn’t really know what to make of her.” I watch as the curve of his mouth turns up in a slight smile.
“Ashlyn, did you wonder if Aiden (Logan) was drawn to you simply because you were one of the only people besides doctors and nurses that he was allowed to see every day?”
She straightens her shoulders. “I did at first, but as our connection grew. I knew it was more than that. And of course discovering our matching tattoos… that just proved that there was this undeniable thing between us that could not be explained away. And I didn’t want to try to. I wanted to get to know him, whoever he was.”
I smile at her explanation, and then blush when I read the next question on my list. “Things are pretty intense for you two, umm, in the bedroom. Why do you think that is? I really hate to get so personal but you know everyone, okay mainly women, are dying to know.” I offer a weak smile.
Ashlyn looks down. “Um, next question,” she mumbles.
Aiden chuckles and glances over at her. “I’ve got this one, babe. You can let your readers know that we have an insanely intense connection inside and outside the bedroom and I feel incredibly blessed to have this beautiful girl.”
Ashlyn swallows and looks down shyly at his declaration. I find it incredibly sweet.
“Ashlyn, how worried were you that he would leave once he regained his memory?”
Her fists clench in her lap and she pulls in a deep breath. Aiden takes her hand and absently rubs small circles onto the back of her hand with his thumb. The small gesture seems to relax her just slightly.
“Yes, of course I was. I knew he had a life out there, somewhere, and when we finally discovered who he was, it was difficult to watch him go explore it, but I knew I had to let him.”
I suddenly found myself remembering that cheesy saying about if you love something, let it go, and nod at her in understanding. It was a test of their love to see if he’d return to her. “Aiden, when you hopped back into your old life, what did you do during that time? Are there certain parts of your old life you never want to go back to?”
His grip tightened on Ashlyn’s hand. “I met with friends and colleagues, I continued to see Dr. Andrews, and just sort through all the stuff that had accumulated while I was away…bills…emails…things like that. It was quite depressing. I didn’t feel connected to my old life at all. My real life felt like it was back with Ashlyn, but I knew I had to try. I started working again at the university and even though I knew Ashlyn deserved more, I couldn’t stay away from her any longer.”
I took another sip of my wine, leaning forward in my seat at his words. He really was breathtakingly handsome, with his strong jaw covered in a few days stubble and his beautiful hazel eyes. “What are your plans for the future, as a couple?”
They smiled and laced their hands together. “Hmm, let’s see,” Ashlyn began. I could tell a million thoughts were floating through her mind and she was struggling to put it all into words. “Living our life together,” she said simply. “And enjoying every bit of it.”
Aiden brought his hand to the back of her neck, weaving his hand underneath her hair to pull her to his mouth for a kiss.
I sighed, watching their sweet kiss and wondered where I could find my very own Aiden. “Do you happen to have a brother?” I asked, fumbling with the stem of my wine glass.
